DYKC?™ #21 — Green Mileage

in Podcast

In preparation for the 2010 Boston Marathon, I have become a running man. At 245-250lbs, this isn’t easy, but, each green mile brings me closer to that ultimate truth — nothing is impossible.

Scooting….Love it.

Proud of you my friend. Keep pushing and keep trying. Perhaps I’ll even try my own green mile and see how I do.

along the same lines here to get in better shape but I’m going the 10k ——> half marathon —–> route. My thinking is you have to love running to run marathon (unless you’re Puffy and you hire a trainer…cue MTV reality show re-run )

There’s a special category for “muscular” guys running marathons. It’s called Clydesdale. It’s unofficial, so the actual weight classes vary from race to race, but I think in most cases any guy over 200 lbs is considered a Clydesdale. I’d be more amused by it if the corresponding women’s class (“Athena”) didn’t start at 140 lbs. Only regular marathon runners weigh less than 140 lbs. WTF?

I’d love to go for a run with you, Clarence.

What kind of training plan are you on? I always recommend Couch-to-5k for new runners. I didn’t think I could ever run much more than a 5k and I totally amazed myself.

Erica, that Clydesdale label is thoroughbred like a mug, isn’t it? Right now, I am working myself to a mile in 10 minutes. Sometime this summer, I hope to be able to do 2 miles, and then 3 by the fall. I need to be able to maintain. So, my plan right now, is to keep it tight, stay in my lane, and maintain. Once I get comfortable with 3 miles, I hear that I can start to lay it on thick, because I’ll be in a rhythm & groove. Plus, I have to keep the eating right. So, far, that’s my plan and I’m stickin’ to it :)

I’d expect nothing less. :)

The BOSTON MARATHON? Have you LOST your mind? I mean I am really excited for you but please please take it easy. At least you have 2 years to prepare so I am glad you are pacing yourself. You are NOT playing. You know you have us as your routing team! And, I want to see you cross that line to victory. I am going to look for a 5 mile marathon to do now. You are encouraging me but I am SOOOO out of shape!
