Politics, (and the media that turns the whole scenario into poplitics), especially in the United States — has given me reason to pause. What is really important today? Is it the mass-miserablism that we are being sold by the media, or something more worthy of our time and efforts?

i’ve grown quite tired of infotainment as well. i just thinking the other day that if i ever get arrested for anything, it will probably be for attempting to firebomb one of three places: the offices of tmz.com, the headquarters for vh1 (for assaulting the airwaves with hours upon hours of so-called “celebreality” shows), and/or the E! network.
been checking out shows over at voxunion.com off and on - it’s a nice alternative in terms of connecting music, politics, journalism, and resistance. listening to that in my headphones while co-workers were watching *rock of love* during lunch was kind of a trip.
oh yeah, not sure if you got my last direct message via twitter (a cool platform, but it will eat your tweets when it has a craving for them), but i had to laugh when you suggested that my “voice” was better than yours. truth - i’m just trying to channel YOU, man! (lol) meanwhile, i wish i could be as concise as you. anytime you can make it plain in five minutes, drop nothing but mental jewels and then jet while heads marinate…that’s a gift right there. for real.
Macedonia, ‘preciate the compliments and encouragement. I will have to visit Voxunion and see what they have going down — it might be something I can co-sign on as well.
Also, I am not sure exactly when the U.S. made the shift from news to infotainment, however, I can see why it works for most of the population. I suspect that if the news actually challenged you to look at real issues, then, the implicit charge is that you will have to look internally at yourself.
In this era of entitlement, who do you think is going to draw a line in the sand, take a solid stance, and evaluate exactly where they stand?
Marinate.
I have to cast my vote as a hater of “Billary.” I think the emergence of this term is a sign of the inability of American political and popular cultures to imagine a woman occupying the White House as Madame President and a man occupying the house as First Man.
Just as Hillary is revolutionary in redefining the role of women in politics, so Bill might be revolutionary redefining the role of men in politics (depending upon the outcome of first the primary and then the elections). I fear that men see this as a challenge to their manhood, and to cover that up they talk about “Billary.” This keeps Bill in the race, even putting him first. Man up Jeff Chang and Clarence. Let Hillary stand on her own.
Wife, I don’t believe I can co-sign on the notion that I have an inability to reconcile Hillary as the President (and Bill as “First Man”) — while some may see it as a challenge to their manhood, I have no problems imagining Hillary as president (I actually believe she has a solid shot to win and she is in this race).
As far as Bill still being in the race, it is almost unfortunate that Hillary has to carry the family name while still trying to legitimize her own candidacy. Still, if you have a former president for a husband, why would you not strengthen your hustle by utilizing his already established visibility?
The thought of manhood never crossed my mind, when considering Hillary’s charge to become president — what has crossed my mind (and I have said as much in this recent show, is that none of the candidates seem to be addressing real issues). They only seem to be tap-dancing around each other.
See how strong I just came? That should be enough for my official Man Up! campaign! This is why I love you, Wife — like me, you always say what others are scared to say.

Side note, people have been saying Billary since the Clinton administration! Back then I took it to mean that Hillary had a lot of influence on Bill as first lady. Today I think it means she’s married to a recent president and that’s going to influence the way people see her, no matter what gender she is.
The catfight between Obama and Hillary hurts them both, but it hurts Hillary more because it makes her look like a cold, stern bitch instead of just another sleazy candidate. It’s a shame she can’t reign herself in a bit.
Absolutely loved show #16. Thanks for hipping me to Global Voices. We get so wrapped up into what’s going on in the US and sometimes we forget that it’s a great big world and others are going through a far worse hell than we can ever imagine. I know I’m guilty of it. Thanks for bringing me back down to reality. The world is certainly more than the elections. Peace….

guilty as charged. i love the political “hot mess”. l like the fights too. i think they’re healthy. i actually think the candidates talk about the issues a lot but the media decides what we focus on. example - edwards won the debate in SC but the media just covered Obama and Hillary.
anyway. love everything you do. keep it up.
