TRUTH? I am coming to the strong realization that my life feels constrained in some way if I am not able to connect with people, in particular through the stories they could share about their life. Jason Boyett said, “stories are a societal glue” — and his statement hits like a 12th-round knockout.
What is becoming absolutely apparent about my own nature is that I feel compelled to share the stories that have been passed on to me by the people I encounter. Some of them are great adventures. Others capture the agonizing defeat in a failed hustle. Usually when the story is over, I often walk away actually feeling the story. How can I capture that spirit and emotion so that others can share in the same story I just heard?
Earlier today a friend jokingly asked me if I wanted craft stories like Uncle Remus — I was too distracted at the time and missed the intended punchline altogether, but, it did get me thinking, “should I be the one to tell their stories?” My writing. Your story. My voice. Your story. My camera. Your story. Maybe.
