In a few hours it will be February and with that comes the influx of everyone suddenly getting down with their heritage in the name of Black History Month.
Why is February the month the entire nation should take a moment, pause, and reflect on Black history? Why were we only given a month? Black people, don’t hate, it used to be a week! The reality is that over the years a lot of significant things went down in the month of February that were progressive movements towards change.
TRUTH? I’m in favor of Black people celebrating positive change in our history. Would I limit that to one month? Not only no, but hell no. While Black History Month is a symbol of change, I think think our hustle should be to celebrate Black history daily. Let that marinate your mentals for a hot minute. Still we rise, right? But only during the month of February? Squash that nonsense.
I challenge Black people to RAISE UP and live a “Year of the Black Fist“. Celebrate your heritage daily. Educate yourself, your youngbloods, and your friends. Recognize that change can become static if you’re not building on what people fought and died for. Live that life we earned (and stop acting like someone owes you something). It’s real in the battlefield and you have to play to win. Let’s get some act right!
White people, pump your fists too. Celebrate your Black heritage! TRUTH? You are just as Black as the next man. If you can’t celebrate progress within our nation, then we are divided and we fall (and please stop calling me African-American — I wasn’t born there). Stay Black!
